Description

Pp. 194, with 31 full page lithographed plates (12 are hand-colored). Early half green morocco over marbled boards with matching marbled endpapers, spine in five compartments with gilt lettering and panel lines, sm 4to (254 x 190mm). F.W. Frohawk drew and lithographed the plates; 12 plates are intricately hand-colored as called for in Zimmer (p. 41) and other reference sources. This work was planned to have been completed in 90 to 95 parts - only the first five parts offered here were published. As the work was never competed no printed title page was ever issued. An early owner has tipped in a manuscript note identifying this title, its original cost and list of plates present. See Fine Bird Books (1990) p. 58; Nissen IVB, 77 and Wood 224.

Near Fine

Some occasional light foxing to three blank endpapers and a few text pages, the hand-colored and monochrome plates are bright and clean; a near fine copy.
