Description
Pp. 360. Later full calf in antique style, five raised bands, red morocco title label, 12mo. According to Norman (2008), "The first herbal both produced and printed in the United States, as opposed to those which were reprints of European works." This work was of great use to the early residents of New England as it described the herbs used for medicine and home remedies that could be grown locally. In 1747 Stearns was born in Bolton, Massachusetts; he became a physician who practiced medicine in Worcester, Massachusetts, then in New York, and finally in Brattleborough, Vermont.
