Pp. (iv), 150 (lacks pp. 117-120 of text), 43 full-page chromolithograph plates. Later portfolio wrappers with printed title label on front wrapper, lg folio (18.5 x 12.25 inches). This volume is unbound in signatures as originally issued by the publisher; the text pages 117-120 are lacking. Each plate displays at least one large to medium size fish image (often at natural size) that is surrounded by other smaller fish images. Cyprinus is the genus of typical carps in family Cyprinidae; they are of East Asian origin. The genus is famed as a food fish and is also widely traded as a pet.

There is scattered foxing to the first and last page of the text only, there is marginal foxing to some of the color plates (most plates are bright and clean), the first plate has a closed marginal tear and a slight crease to one outer corner; a good to very good copy of a rare work.
