Description

Pp. xiv, (errata leaf), 711. Publisher’s elaborately blind-stamped brown ribbed cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine, lg 8vo. Volume 2, not offered here, was published unfinished in 1841-1843 without a title page. The top edge of the title page bears an old ink signature that has been rubbed out. It appears to be Francis H. Pierpont, dated 1838 but it is difficult to say for certain. When a former owner removed the name of Pierpont a cleaning solution was used which left the top edge of the title page and the following page a little discolored. Some old annotations in pencil in the outer margins of several pages.

Very Good

Light wear to the outer corners of the cloth, some scattered foxing to parts of the text, old adhesive mark on front endpaper; a tight copy in very good condition in the attractive original binding.
