Description
Pp. 250+, 43 fine chromolithographic plates – many finished by hand-coloring. All 26 parts have their original printed green wraps. These parts are presented in a green cloth-covered folding portfolio case that inserts into a green cloth-covered hard slipcase with gilt-border decorations on the front and rear boards and with gilt-title on the spine, folio. This work contains contributions by P.L. Sclater, R. Bowdler Sharpe, W.R. Ogilvie-Grant, E. Hartert, C.E. Hellmayr, T. Salvadori, and others. The fine color plates are after paintings by Keulemans, Grönvold and others. Zimmer (p. 695-697) states: "A series of monographs of various groups of birds, prepared by different workers and issued from time to time. The intention was to have the complete series embrace all avian groups." Unfortunately, the death of the editor terminated the project. These 26 parts are all that were published, no overall title page was issued due to Wytsman’s death.
