Pp. 252. Rebacked publisher's black cloth with "Author of Walden and A Week on Concord River" on spine and with blind-stamped wreath on front and back boards, sm 8vo. No ads present at rear (never bound in). In the first edition according to Allen (pg. 18) "the paper entitled "The Allegash and East Branch," as well as the Appendix, was not entirely prepared for the press until after the author's death, and it suffers from careless edition," which is found in the present copy. Bookplate of Donald H. Williams on the front endpaper.
