Pp. [8], xii, 268, 50 wood-engraved plates printed in green (1 plate in fine color facsimile). Later brown morocco leather in antique style with four raised bands and gilt-lettering on the spine, blind-stamped with decorations on the front and rear covers, page edges untrimmed, decorative color endpapers, sm 8vo. This is the first of two volumes of this work which contains illustrations and descriptions of medical plants, with their names, qualities, properties, and histories, etc. "Rafinesque's most important work was his Medical Flora - which became the vade-mecum of the Botanic physicians." (Packard in Lilly, 137). Plates 43 is presented in fine color facsimile that match the originals closely. A very rare work that seldom comes up for sale.

Some mild foxing to the text, title page with small repair along the bottom edge, some browning (likely acid damage) to the bottom edge of the last few pages, otherwise a very good copy in attractive period-style leather binding.
