Pp. (11), 1-663, (3), 665-1529, (97, register), with an engraved title, a second title printed in red and black, and 2472 woodcuts. Original full blind-tooled alum-tawed pig skin over wooden boards, spine with six raised bands and with red leather label in one compartment, with two brass clasps (expertly restored), lg folio (15.3" x 10"). The very rare first edition was published in two volumes from 1588-1591, this second enlarged edition was issued in 1687. The "Kreuterbuch" is a massive and fully illustrated work which describes 3000 medicinal plants, many of which are illustrated. Second enlarged edition, edited by Caspar and Jean Bauhin. First eleven leaves with professional repairs to margins with no text loss, final 47 leaves also with some professional repairs to margins (a few pages with slight text lost), a few small worm holes to several pages in the register, some general light browning to the text, a few page only with old marginal damp stains, some restoration to the outer joints of the original alum-tawed binding; aside from these minor points, this volume is in good to very good condition in the original 17th century binding - an impressive, quite beautiful, large tome.
