Its members are commonly known as the sac fungi or ascomycetes. It is the largest phylum of Fungi, with over 64,000 species (from Wiki).  This volume is from the private research collection of University of Michigan mycologist Alexander H. Smith with his name in stamped in gilt at the base of the cloth spine.
