It was translated from the Chinese and annotated by Friedrich Hirth and W. W. Rockhill. The work entitled ‘Chu-fan-chi’ provides ‘A Description of Barbarous Peoples’ or ‘Records of Foreign Nations’ throws light on mediaeval trade with the Far East, then in the hands of Arab or Persian merchants (from the preface).
