By Nüesch, Emil
Pp. 279; 8 chromolithograph plates (from color paintings by Walter Früh). Later brown cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine and with gilt panel line, original brown printed wrappers bound in place, 8vo. This work is a monograph of the genus Clitocybe with an identification key. Clitocybe is a genus of mushrooms characterized by white, off-white, buff, cream, pink, or light-yellow spores, gills running down the stem, and pale white to brown or lilac coloration. They are primarily saprotrophic, decomposing forest ground litter. There are estimated to be around 300 species in the widespread genus (from Wiki). See also Uellner 1275; Volbracht 1483 and Stafleu 6918. The color plates are excellent. This volume is from the private research collection of University of Michigan mycologist Alexander H. Smith with his signature on the front wrapper and title page and his name in stamped in gilt at the base of the cloth spine.
