Pp. 188, 52 color plates each with a tissue guard and a descriptive leaf of text. Contemporary full dark green morocco leather, spine with five raised bands, each band set off by gilt panel lines, the second and third compartments are lettered in gilt, both covers bordered in gilt lines with decorations at the corners, richly marbled French green endpapers, (original printed gray wrapper bound in place), 4to. The full title reads: Die Vogel am Nil von seiner mundung bis in das gebiet seiner Quellflusse (Weisser Nil) auf Grund eigener Reisen und Beobachtungen in Wort und Bild dargestellt (=The birds on the Nile from its mouth to the area of its source river (White Nile) on the basis of author’s travels and observations). The 52 color plates (45 of birds and 7 of eggs) are mainly after F. Neubar, A. Frisch, E. de Maes with one each by J. G. Keulemans and P. Preiss. This volume, on the birds of prey, was the only volume published in the series; volume one never appeared. No ownership marks and no signs of use. This is a fine copy in a truly fine binding.
