Pp. 1-47, (1, limitation page); frontis engraving and frontis portrait of Bewick tipped-in to a brown paper frame at the front, 1 tipped in photo of Bewick’s memorial grave stone, 14 engravings by Bewick in the text. Original full brown cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine and with gilt image of a Bewick engraving on the front cover, in matching brown cloth-covered hard slipcase, 8vo (9 1/8 x 6 3/8 inches). This edition is limited to 100 numbered copies, this is copy no. 1. This is a special association copy – on the front endpaper, the volume is inscribed by the author as follows: “R. H. Middleton – in memory of our old friend T. B. Thanks for everything! B. H. 8/8/75.” R. Hunter Middleton was the owner of Cherryburn Press in Chicago and great Bewick aficionado. This volume was printed in monotype Baskerville in black on a calendered Japanese paper.
