Herpetologia Mexicana, seu Descripto Amphibiorum Novae Hispaniae
By Wiegmann, Arend F.A.
Pp. vi, 54 + 10 full page black-and-white plates. Recent burnt orange cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine and front cover, (original printed blue wrappers found in place), folio. This monograph reprints a classic herpetological work on Mexico originally published in Berlin in 1834. Though the monograph is authored by Wiegmann, the collecting was done by Ferdinard Deppe and Christian J. W. Schiede mostly in Veracruz in the years 1824-1830. The volume provides a list of specimens collected using the Weigmann’s nomenclature and the current nomenclature. The fine full page plates are of lizards included a full page illustration of Heloderma horridum that was first described by Wiegmann. This volume is from the research library of herpetologist Kevin W. Marx with his signature on the front wrapper and title page.
