(vol. I): pp. 354, 138 text-figures – some in color, 3 of 4 folding distribution maps (includes maps 1, 3, and 4 -- map 2 on ecto-parasites was never issued); (vol. II): pp. 270, 71 text-figures – some in color, 13 folding distribution maps. Publisher's simulated brown crocodile-skin over cloth (hardcover) with color pictorial stiff wrappers bound in place, sm 4to. This work provides a detailed survey of the distribution, ecology, conservation status of the caiman and crocodiles of South America including Trinidad and Tobago. Volume I covers crocodiles of Colombia. Volume II presents covers the crocodiles of Venezuela, Trinidad, Tobago, Guyana, Suriname, Guayana Francesa, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Brasil, Paraguay, Argentina, and Uruguay. A very scarce work that draws together much information on South American caimans and crocodiles not available elsewhere. The faux crocodile skin binding is very unusual. I cannot find any evidence of other copies bound in this same way. The quality and style of the binding appears to be one put on by the publisher. Perhaps a very limited number of copies were bound in this special way. The text is in Spanish with Latin names used throughout. No ownership marks.
