Original publisher’s laminated brown hardcover, lettered in gilt on the spine, and with a gilt llama on the front cover of volume 1 and a gilt anteater on the front cover of volume 2 (original yellow and red printed wrappers bound in place), 4to (11 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches). The first edition of this work was published in 1940; this second edition has been revised and expanded. For each family of South American mammals, the systematics, morphological characters, pelages, feeding habits, reproductive behavior, curiosities and folklore and geographical distribution are described. Representative species from each family are depicted in full color. The second edition was issued in wrappers; a small number, such as this copy, were specially bound in hardcover by the publisher. The text is in Spanish. No ownership marks and no signs of use.
