Original publisher’s ornately blind-stamped red cloth, lettered and decorated in gilt on the spine and with gilt symbol on the front cover, top page edge in gilt, sm 8vo. This work presents all of the mammals inhabiting the British Isles. The volume begins with a long memoir of the life of the naturalist Aldrovandi. This is volume XVII in ‘The Naturalist’s Library’ edited by William Jardine. This second edition is revised and enlarged. No ownership marks.
