Pp. 135.  Publisher’s original gray cloth, lettered in white on the spine, pictorial dust jacket, 8vo.  First published in 1939, this work is the earliest primate behavior study every published.  Marais spent three years among a troop of Chacma baboons in the Waterberg of South Africa.  A farm that Marais owned bordered the savanna where the baboons lived.  So, he literally lived next door to the troop for three years.  When Marais first published this work in 1939, he was unaware that his book was the first to document primates living in the wild.  No ownership marks and no signs of use.
