Later half straight-grain green morocco leather, spine with two raised bands lettered in gilt between the bands, over green cloth-covered boards, outlined in gilt (original color pictorial front wrapper bound in at rear), 4to (12 1/4 x 9 inches; 31 x 22.5 cm). The original edition of this work which was published in five parts from 1770 to 1829. It was begun by Cornelis Nozeman and continued after his death by Martinus Houttuyn. This synopsis of the full edition was published in the late 1940s (circa 1948). It provides a selection of quality reproductions of plates from the first originally Dutch bird book by Cornelius Nozeman and Christiaan Sepp. It features a white lapwing, a duck, a great spotted woodpecker, a magpie and a falcon among others. The introduction is by Dr. A. Schierbeek. The text is in Dutch. Rare work seldom offered – this was likely printed in a small edition. No ownership marks.
