The Ornamental Flower Garden and Shrubbery: Containing coloured figures and descriptions of the most beautiful and curious flowering plants and shrubs cultivated in Great Britain
By Lindley, John, Sweet, Robert and Don, David
Pp. (vi, iv, iv, iv), 576, with 288 hand-colored engraved plates (some heightened with gum arabic, 6 folding) after Sarah Anne Drake, E. Dalton Smith, William Herbert, and others, by Weddell, Bailey, Barclay and others. Contemporary light brown calf, gilt-tooled and blind-stamped, spine with red and black morocco labels for title and volume number, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, lg 8vo (237 x 150 mm). This fine set features the work of some of the greatest British botanical artists of the period – it is based on the earlier works by Lindley, Sweet and Don. Of the three, only Lindley was alive at the time of this re-issue, which was updated with text by an unidentified “practical floriculturalist”. A rare work that is seldom offered.
