Original publisher’s ornately blind-stamped red cloth, lettered and decorated in gilt on the spine and with gilt symbol on the front cover, top page edge in gilt, sm 8vo. Plates 3, 11, 18 and 26 are not present. The volume begins with a long memoir of the life of the great naturalist Pliny. This is volume IX in ‘The Naturalist’s Library’ edited by William Jardine. This second edition is revised and enlarged. The first edition of this work was entitled ‘Gallinaceous Birds, Part III: The Natural History of Pigeons.’ It was volume V in The Naturalist’s Library. No ownership marks.
