Publisher’s original pictorial forest green pebble cloth, spine is lettered in gilt with gilt floral decorations, the front board has a gilt vignette of a turtle, square 12mo (17 x 14 cm). Sowerby was a noted conchologist and zoologist specializing in marine biology. The work describes various sea creatures (both animals and plants) that can be placed in a sea-water aquarium. This volume was published only three years after P. H. Gosse published his ground-breaking work inventing the concept of the aquarium. No ownership marks and almost no signs of use.
