Report on the Seal Islands of Alaska
By Elliott, Henry W.
SKU# 13967
Pp. (ii), 188, 29 black-and-white full page plates (photos, drawings and half-tone illustrations), 2 double-page maps, numerous un-numbered text-figures and small maps. Gray wrappers with light blue title/author labels on front cover, lg 4to. This report was submitted by Elliot to the Smithsonian in 1880 but it was not published until 1884. It presents the “results of the author’s observations at seal rookeries on Pribilof Islands in 1872-74 and in 1876, also later on Commander Islands, during his investigation into the life and habits of the fur seal” (Arctic Bibliography 4546). No ownership marks and few signs of use. The stipple-drawn plates of seals are very attractive.
