Early green cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine (original pale green printed wrappers bound in place), 8vo. This work was edited by Edward Burgess, with additional notes and descriptions by James H. Emerton. Occasional Papers of the Boston Society of Natural History, volume 2. This is the first major monograph on American Spiders. The author, Nicholas Hentz, pioneered the study of North American spiders. Single ink stamp at the top of the front wrapper reads: “San Diego Scientific Library per S. D. S. N. H. Whitney Purchase.” A rare work seldom offered.
