Pp. 832, (1, corrigenda); 29 full page black-and-white plates (photographs).  Early wine-red cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine, and with panel lines at the head and foot of the spine, thick lg 8vo.  From the series: Lilloa: Revista de Botanica, tome 22.  This is the rare first edition of Singer’s classic work that was first published in Argentina.  Rolf Singer held a curator position at Instituto Miguel Lillo in Tucman, Argentina from 1948-1962.  The text is entirely in English.  The frontis matter has the portraits of two early botanists, Vincent Fayod (1860-1900) and Narcisse Patouillard (1854-1926).  This volume is from the private research collection of University of Michigan mycologist Alexander H. Smith with his signature on the front endpaper.  At the base of the cloth spine the name of Alexander Smith is also stamped in gilt.
