Pp. vi, (1), 247; 16 pages of black-and-white photographs.  Later red cloth, lettered in white on the spine, 8vo.  The Kirkus Review of this volume in 1951 states: The Story of a Unique Experiment turns out to be a delightful book as Mrs. Hayes' records the day by day incidents of her three-year experiment in raising a female baby chimpanzee in her home, following all procedures for human infants.  Since the author's husband was a research psychologist at the Yerkes Laboratories of Primate Biology, they had no trouble getting custody of Viki when she was six weeks old and had the know-how for the few special preparations for her.  Viki's routine was like any other baby's -- feeding, toilet training, bathing, etc. -- and her brief, daily "school" periods were to teach her human speech (she now understands many words and has a small vocabulary of her own).  This is the stated first edition.  Mildly ex-library from Mountain View Public Library in California with an oval stamp on the front endpaper and on the title page.  No other library markings.
