Pp. xiii, 331; 34 full page plates (black-and-white photographs and halftone drawings).  Publisher’s original light gray printed wrappers, lg 8vo.  The Tortugas are a small group of sandy islands, the terminal members of a series of keys which fringe the southern Florida coast.  The name, Tortugas, is the Spanish equivalent for Turtle Islands, so named because sea turtles in the past came to lay their eggs there.  Papers From Tortugas Laboratory, Volume 34. Carnegie Institution of Washington Publication no. 535.  No ownership marks but the front wrapper contains two black areas where a former owner’s name had been blacked out.
