Pp. xvi, 1222, (1); 828 distribution maps, long distribution table.  Publisher’s original pale green cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine and front cover, color pictorial dust jacket, thick sm 4to.  Describes 1,186 bird species recorded from China.  The monograph also includes all the new subspecies discovered by Chinese ornithologists since the founding of New China.  Warmly inscribed “To Dr. George and Kyoko, with warm regards and best wishes for more successes in conservation thru research, Joe and Lydia Cheng 1987 July, Beijing.”  This work is inscribed by the author to George Archibald, conservationist and co-founder of the International Crane Foundation, Baraboo, Wisconsin.  Plain pocket on the rear endpaper and name stamp Ron Sauey Memorial Library on rear endpaper and top page edge, no other ownership marks.
