Pp. 40, (1, contents); 1 color-printed map, 3 color-printed plates of gibbons.  Contemporary one-half brown calf leather over marbled boards with gilt-lettered brown leather author/title label on the upper cover with later French marbled endpapers added in, (original pictorial stiff front wrapper bound in place), sm 4to.  This monograph on the gibbons (Hylobates) of Indochina was written by herpetologist Rene Bourret (1884-1957), better-known for his three large monographs on the snakes (1936), turtles (1941) and amphibians (1942) of Indochina.  This monograph on gibbons was purchased from a book vendor on the streets of Hanoi in the 1980s.  The front wrapper bears the circular name stamp of Laboratoire des Sciences Naturelles de l'Universite Indochinoise.  The name of this university has been changed to Vietnam National University.  There are no other ownership marks.  Rare work.

Condition Description There is some text-browning to the front wrapper and the title page, all other pages are bright and clean, the edges of marbled paper on the covers has cello-tape border, there is wear to the edges of the boards, and the lower cover has some wear to the marbled paper; aside from these minor issues of wear, this is a tight copy in good or better condition.
