Pp. x, (2), 1-300; 54 fine chromolithographs of birds and their nests with eggs, all protected with tissue guards.  Recent one-half brown leather over marbled boards, spine is lettered in gilt on a red Morrocco spine label, outer page edges decorated, lg 4to (12 x 10 inches).  Bennett (p. 44) notes: "Drawings done chiefly by Mr. Edwin Sheppard of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, acknowledged as the best ornithological artist in America”.  The color illuminated title page is very attractive.  This work was originally published in 25 parts.  See also Zimmer, p. 240.  From the research collection of Dr. Louis Frank of Milwaukee with his name stamped on the half-title page and preface.
