Publisher’s original ornately blind-stamped dark-brown boards, with new black cloth spine, lettered in gilt, lg 4to. The volume contains a geological report, an examination of the fish, reptiles, and plants as well as longer reports on California birds and mammals. Various sections are by W. P. Blake, A. L. Heermann, S. F. Baird, E. Hallowell, and C. Girard among others. Many of the color plates are beautiful scenes of the West along the expedition route. No ownership marks and few signs of use.
